Mother

Women & Children

“My son has learned early on not to ask for anything because he knows we don’t have the money for it. One Christmas, when he was 7 or 8, I learned to crochet and made him a scarf. What kid gets excited about a crocheted scarf on Christmas? My kid, my kid.”

Client

St. Vinny's

“I tend to be more Republican myself. I do believe someone should work for the money that they make, but at the same time there are instances like when if you get hurt, community should help. I do believe in one person helping another.”

Warming Shelter

“During the day, I like to spend time with my son. I see him Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Once I leave the shelter, I walk over to his house, make him breakfast, and then walk him to school. After school, we like to explore a lot. Sometimes we’ll take a bus to Appleton and walk around the Fox River Mall and other times we stick around Oshkosh and walk to a park or work on the car he will have once he is old enough to drive it.”

“What I’ve gotten from my Boys & Girls Club is things like clothes, shoes, opportunities to take a clean shower, an open mind, optimism, friends, an amazing staff, all rolled up into one gigantic building.”

Habitat for Humanity Family

Habitat

“Habitat for Humanity helps people. Habitat helps build the home for you and works it out so you don’t have to do any direct down payments. We really like the house, and we really like the people around the neighborhood. It is good. I am beyond grateful.”

Storytelling

"Stories transcend race, gender, politics, geographic boundaries. Stories, through the ages, connect us as people. I hope by highlighting some of the stories of the people of Oshkosh will allow us to see the world from multiple perspectives."
